The Society is in general self financing being supported by an active membership and organised by a committee which is annually elected from the membership.

Membership of the Lyminge Historical Society is open to all local residents above the age of 14 years. Children between the ages of 10 to 13 years accompanying their parent or guardian are also welcome.

To join the Society you need only to attend one of our events and you can be enrolled immediately. If you wish to belong but cannot attend in person please contact the Society by email follow this link: Membership Enquiry. The current fee is £11 per person.

All membership fees are renewable in January of the year of membership and the annual fee is set in agreement with the membership at the AGM of the preceding year.

Membership covers free entry to all regular monthly talks and the right to buy a ticket on any trips, outings or other events organised by the Society. We will always try to extend this privilege to close relatives of members.

Talks, Trips and Events

Talks start at 7:30pm and usually end around 9:00pm. The committee aims to arrange a monthly talk on or around the first Tuesday of the month starting in March through to December except when we organise an event in place of the talk.

During the summer months we usually replace the talks with visits to places of historical interest to our members. The dates of the visits are shown in the programme. The attending members’ costs, terms and times of each trip are announced at the monthly meetings.

Visitors

We welcome visitors to our talks, please note there is an entrance fee of £4.00 on the night. Occasionally we have a retiring collection in place of the fee.

When there is space available, we extend invitations to non-members on our outings and other events. The charge per person for non-members on the trips is announced at one of the meetings preceding the event and once space has been confirmed.
